Laura North

Laura North is a certified corporate and professional life coach. She received her coaching training through The Coaches Training Institute of San Rafael, California—one of the two major coaching training organizations in North America. Laura has completed advanced training in Organization and Relationship Systems Coaching. Laura was attracted to the profession by its guiding principle of seeing each person as naturally “creative, resourceful and whole”.
Laura's strength is helping others to clarify what they want and to uncover the important things that they have neglected. She can hear what is not being said and respond with powerful questions and challenges. Laura can be both gentle and firm. She is gifted in strategising in a way that is creative and fun. Above all, Laura is committed to nothing but the best for her clients.
Laura is an excellent communicator with a positive attitude. She is enthusiastic, dependable, efficient, motivated, and well-organized. Her pleasing personal style and no-nonsense approach has aided many in conquering personal and professional challenges.
"Everything I've done in life has led me to coaching," says Laura. Being a cancer survivor (Hodgkin's Disease) at the age of 19 put life in an unusual perspective that forever changed how she views the world. Like most of us, Laura's most profound learning has been taught by life itself.
Laura can identify with many of the same issues her clients struggle with; she has laboured long hours to complete projects, worked hard to build a successful reputation in the education field, made plenty of mistakes in relationships and at times paid little attention to herself or her health. She sees her life as a work in progress and uses her own personal experience as the drafting table for her own learning.
Laura worked for 10 years teaching pre-school for children aged three to five. She describes this time in her life as one of the most exhausting, yet most fulfilling. "I learned more about life, relationships and discovering who I was during those years. Children are wise and gifted teachers" says Laura.
Laura lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with her husband of seventeen years and two children.
In daily life and in work, she seeks opportunities to integrate spirituality and promote balance between work, relationships, learning, creative expression and play.
An advocate for volunteering, Laura has given her skills and time to various and numerous summer camps for kids, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, Open Door for Single Moms, Canuck Place (Children's Hospice), the local Food Bank, and the Canadian Cancer Society among others.
Laura has focused her speaking career on developing workshops about goal setting and finding the balance in life. Laura's heart is in supporting people in marriage and family life. This stems from her belief that we all desire and are capable of fulfilling relationships. She and her husband are involved in a pre-marriage mentoring program to engaged couples or those considering marriage.
Laura leads a very active life. She loves connecting with a friend over a meal or a long walk, music, theatre and dance—
especially with children, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, watching playoff hockey, indulging in any services offered at a spa, spending time with her nieces and nephews or anything on the creative side—cooking, sewing, quilting, and painting.
Laura has travelled the west coast of North America, visited many of the islands on the west coast of Canada, travelled to Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise in Alberta, Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and western Europe—she especially enjoys Provence. She dreams of living there one day—wandering the local markets, eating tampenade and basking in the cultural ambiance.
Laura is a member in good standing of the International Coaching Federation , the professional association for practicing coaches.
